Open and Enclosed Car Transportation Services
At Compass Transport we offer two methods in which to ship your car--open auto transport and enclosed auto transport. Open and enclosed refer to the shipping trailers used to transport your vehicle. Open transport leaves your car exposed to the elements which may not be the best option if you have an exotic or classic car, however open auto transport jobs does offer lower car shipping rates. There are certain instances where enclosed transport is necessary--examples include shipping an ultra-pricey exotic car (i.e.--Ferrari, Lamborghini), or shipping a restored classic vehicle (i.e.--a '69 Camaro completely restored with a $20,000 custom paint job). For your normal every day driver, open transport is typically the best choice as it is more cost-effective while still being fully insured.
Exotic Car Transport Services
We understand that if you’re shipping an exotic car, you expect the best care possible to be given to it. Compass Transport offers a number of car shipping services to ensure your car undergoes a perfect shipping experience. We will ship your car in an enclosed trailer to prevent possible damage the elements. We exercise the utmost care when loading and unloading your vehicle from the enclosed trailer, as this is a very delicate process. We also ensure that your exotic vehicle does not constantly undergo loading and unloading as other cars are added and removed. This will eliminate an increase in the chances that any accidental damage would occur as a result an error during these car transport services.
Door-to-Door vs. Terminal-to-Terminal Shipping Car Transport Services
When it comes to auto transport services, there are many options available (by truck, by rail, open, enclosed, etc.). Two of these car transport options are terminal-to-terminal or door-to-door. What are the differences?
With terminal-to-terminal car transportation services, you would drive your vehicle to a terminal that your car shipping company will direct you to beforehand. You would leave your vehicle there where it will remain in the lot until the transport company is able to book enough vehicles to arrange for the transport. When your car arrives at the terminal in your destination city, the transport company would call to let you know that you can arrange to pick up your vehicle (and typically that you have a certain time frame in which to do it in).
Door-to-door shipping occurs when your vehicle is picked up at a location of your choice, such as your home, office, place of business, mechanic's shop, dealership, etc. and is delivered to a pre-determined location based on the information you provide.
Opting to have your car picked up and delivered right at your front door is the more convenient of the two car transportation services, but you must keep in mind that if a car transport driver cannot access your home for reasons beyond his control (narrow streets, local laws do not allow large trucks in that location, etc.), they will arrange to meet you at a nearby location to pick up or deliver your car.
It's also important to note that depending on the agreement you have with the auto transport company, you may end up paying more for terminal-to-terminal car transportation services if your car sits in a terminal for a long period of time awaiting pick-up on either end. It's also important to note that these terminals are open storage lots (i.e.--tow yards, etc.), leaving your car exposed to the different elements until it is picked up.
